Law Enforcement Chaplains are available to sworn and non sworn department personnel and their families. They provide around the clock availability, accessibility and confidentiality.

The County of Hawai`i’s Law Enforcement Chaplains primary objectives are to support law enforcement families in professional and personal times and serve the community of the Big Island of Hawaii in times of emergency and tragedies.

What Does a Police Chaplain Do?

  • Counsel members of the local law enforcement community, sworn and non sworn
  • Counsel officers in areas such as Stress Management, Post Shooting, Burn Out
  • Serve as part of a department's Crisis Response Team
  • Assist the department in making death notifications
  • Assist at suicide incidents
  • Provide guidance should a Line Of Duty Death occur within the department or community.
  • Provide assistance to victims
  • Provide Support to recruit class through Family Support Night
  • Visit sick or injured officers and departmental personnel in homes and hospitals
  • Assist Officers with VASH (Visitor Aloha Society Hawaii)
  • Offer prayer at special occasions such as recruit graduations, awards ceremonies, blessings, dedication of buildings, retirement ceremonies.
  • Serve as liaison with other clergy in the community
  • Assist with Peer Support
  • Build relationships with watch visits, ride alongs
